Caroline Anderson, volunteer
Empowering individuals to have a voice in their community fosters dignity, inclusion and a sense of belonging. At St. Teresa Place, residents now play an active role in recognizing the frontline staff who impact their lives, thanks to an innovative initiative led by volunteer Caroline Anderson.
Caroline created and championed the awards of excellence program. This program allows residents, many of whom face physical and cognitive challenges, to nominate and celebrate staff members who go above and beyond. This initiative not only uplifts staff morale but also empowers older, vulnerable residents - many of whom have lost their independence - to nominate and vote for the staff members who have made meaningful impacts in their lives. This program boosts staff morale, increases resident involvement and strengthens neighbourhood teams at St. Teresa Place.
Caroline’s leadership extends beyond this initiative. As chair of the resident council, she advocates for her peers, gets residents’ concerns addressed and has residents’ perspectives help shape decision-making. She formed subcommittees, strengthened communication channels and worked closely with staff to enhance the quality of life for residents. Her dedication to equity and inclusion has fostered a stronger, more connected community.
By breaking down barriers, championing resident-led initiatives and creating meaningful opportunities for engagement, Caroline has made a lasting impact. Her work strengthens relationships, celebrates diversity and ensures that every resident, regardless of ability, has a voice in their care and community.
