Morenike Ajidagba, volunteer coordinator
Rebuilding and revitalizing the volunteer program at St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital after the pandemic, volunteer coordinator, Morenike Ajidagba, demonstrated exceptional leadership and creativity. She quickly adapted to her role as volunteer coordinator and used her vision, resourcefulness and dedication to create a vibrant and supportive program that benefits residents, staff and volunteers alike.
Faced with low volunteer numbers post-pandemic, Morenike wasted no time connecting with staff and residents to understand where volunteers would make the greatest impact. By thoughtfully matching volunteers’ interests and skills with specific needs, she increased volunteer engagement dramatically. For example, in the adult day program she increased from one volunteer a week to two or three volunteers each day. This growth allowed for more one-on-one support for clients.
Morenike’s commitment to efficiency is evident in her approach to new projects. While pursuing her master’s degree, she used her coursework to evaluate and promote the “Living Before Dying” project, and has incorporated things to keep it going after the pilot. Her innovative thinking ensures that both time and resources are used effectively, resulting in lasting improvements.
She also fostered community involvement by tapping into the talents of families and friends, creating volunteer teams that bring unique skills and reliability. From seasonal displays to a revitalized recycling program, her efforts are enhancing the resident experience and strengthening community connections.
Through her passion, strategic thinking and ability to engage volunteers meaningfully, Morenike is revitalizing the volunteer program at St. Joseph’s.
