Keeping a healthcare facility safe, efficient and fully operational requires dedication, problem-solving and a commitment to excellence. At the Killam Health Centre, the maintenance team works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure residents, staff and patients experience a comfortable and secure environment, no matter the challenges that arise.
Over the past year, the team navigated significant hurdles, including two renovations to the acute care area, one a complex asbestos removal project and the second repairing damage from a car accident that impacted the facility. At the same time, they have continued to manage the day-to-day demands of maintaining a site with a mix of old and new infrastructure. Their ability to adapt and find solutions has kept the site running smoothly without disruption to patient care.
Despite a malfunctioning boiler system for more than two years, the team works diligently to ensure heating remained stable. They took swift action when they learned the condition of some supporting beams were different than expected. Their attention to detail and proactive approach helped maintain safety while maintaining a high standard of comfort for residents and staff.
Beyond repairs and maintenance, the team fosters a culture of professionalism, respect and safety. Their responsiveness to staff and resident concerns builds trust and confidence, reinforcing that every issue, big or small, will be handled with care. Through their expertise and commitment, the maintenance team plays an essential role in keeping everyone in the site safe which brings peace to many.
